Peru balsam bark extrusion resin, too thick to pour easily, from El Salvador.
Species: Myroxylon peruiferum L. F., Family: Leguminosae (Papillionaceae). Class: Benzoic Esters.
This resin has a complex aroma consisting chiefly of cinnamon and vanilla notes with a slight floral character. It has warm, mellow and somewhat spicy aroma.
Peru balsam resin is used mostly in perfumes.
In aromatherapy, Peru balsam is said to stimulate romance, intimacy, and sexual pleasure.
